The people on this Forum have gone out of their minds.

Sending postcards of thanks to Heath & Jake, but NOT to Annie Proulx, Larry McMurtry, and Diana Ossana.

Since when has the piano composed the concerto?

What a world! What a world!!

One had better suspend all sence of reality when venturing over to that side.

Please stop complaining about the other posters on this forum. The mail campaign was an outgrowth of one person's (Sunspot) strong feelings of appreciation for the two actors.

If you feel that strongly about the writers and screenwriters, why don't you start your own appreciation campaign? We'd be happy to help you promote it throughout the forum.  :)

Thank you.

I am a spanish guy and I've read in a spanish blog that Larry McMurtry has said on CBS News Sunday Morning that the message of the movie is that "Life is not for sissies". Have you heard something about this interview?  On that blog people are discussing about the meaning of the word "sissies" in this sentence.

CBS Sunday Morning Feb 19
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
It has been nominated for more Academy Awards than any other movie this season, for a total of eight nominations – including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Rita Braver sits down with the screenwriters of "Brokeback Mountain," Diana Ossana and the legendary voice of the West, Larry McMurtry, and discovers the story behind the story of "Brokeback Mountain."
From beasts we scorn as soulless,
In forest, field and den,
The cry goes up to witness
The soullessness of men.
~M. Frida Hartley

I think that's just another way of saying "life is tough."

Was flipping channels and just caught that CBS This Morning piece on Larry McMurtry in progress. Excellent piece.
... yet he is suffused with a sense of pleasure because Jack Twist was in his dream.

What a wonderful interview with Larry and Diana on CBS Sunday Morning! Maybe the most sensible and serious treatment of BBM I’ve seen on TV to date. No silly kissing questions. No skirting around the subject matter. You west-coasters, try to catch it. If not, CBS usually posts a transcript later in the week. Here are some highlights:

Much of the interview focused on their love of Annie's story and their struggle to produce the movie. There was also background information on each, along with the story of how they got together.

So much time has been spent discussing “labels” on this forum, yet when the interviewer attempted to probe the relationship between Larry and Diana, they both claimed they were “good friends”, in a way that forbade further discussion. Wonderful.

Ang and Heath gave two short interviews. There were several clips, along with the beautiful music.

Larry and Diana are so matter-of-fact, stressing the movie has absolutely no political agenda, and that it’s ridiculous to think it disparages the image of the West. They both said it was a love story but also discussed the gay / homosexual theme. I don’t think anyone watching would not grasp the movie’s storyline.

There was a brief scene of Diana choosing a dress for the Oscar telecast and their excitement over the nominations.

I just fell in love with both of them.

just watched the entire mcmurtry/ossana interview and it was a peach .  both for the work they were highlighting and to profile these very interesting people and illuminate their relationship.  very interesting indeed, and done with great dignity and honesty.

The Sunday morning interview sounds as if it was terrific. I hope someone is able to post it here so we can see it. I also agree with earlier posters that we should also be dropping Larry and Diana post cards in gratitude for the tremendous work they have given us. I wrote them a card - on a funny / cheesy Las Vegas post card which I hope they'll get a kick out of  ;D - and it felt good to do so. Diana in particular has really seen this baby through since the get-go. I am just thrilled for them. What tremendous satisfaction they must be feeling.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Larry McMurtry, who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay for "Brokeback Mountain," says the film's meaning can be summarized: "Life is not for sissies."

I have a photo of Bette Davis where she's sitting beside a small pillow with "Old Age is Not for Sissies" written on it in needlepoint.

Bette Davis rocks!

What Jack remembered and craved in a way he could neither help nor understand was the time that distant summer on Brokeback when Ennis had come up behind him and pulled him close, the silent embrace satisfying some shared and sexless hunger.
